Excavation in Chula Vista

Chula Vista is really two towns for an excavation crew. The west side is old South Bay: flat streets platted before 1970, clay sewer laterals nearing their end, backyard pools from the same era and lots sized for the ADU their owners are now planning. The east side is master-planned hill country, where the work is drainage correction, slope maintenance and the site cuts that Eastlake and Otay Ranch remodels need.
West side work is bread and butter: lateral trenches at $3,500 to $12,000, pool removals from $6,000, ADU pads with straightforward access. The grid streets mean utilities run where the records say they do more often than not, though we still put DigAlert marks on every job because the exceptions are expensive.
East side calls lean toward water. Hillside lots shed winter rain onto patios and into garages when the original grading settles, and the fix is usually a regrade with proper swales rather than another French drain bandage. We price that work off the slope and the access like everywhere else, on the public table.
The pool in the way of the ADU
The west side of Chula Vista holds more mid-century pools per block than almost anywhere we dig, and many of them have quietly become the reason a backyard cannot host an ADU. Removing the pool and prepping the pad as one project beats doing them a year apart by a wide margin, because the machine, the export trucking and the compaction testing all mobilize once.
Both Chula Vistas
Around Chula Vista the calls come from the west side grid off Third Avenue, Otay Ranch, Eastlake, the Bonita edge, covering ZIPs 91910, 91911, 91913, 91914, 91915. If your property is near those, odds are we have probed ground within sight of it.

South Bay questions, answered
Our Eastlake backyard floods the patio every winter. Is that an excavation fix?
Often yes. Settled grading that pitches water toward the house gets corrected by re-establishing fall away from the slab and cutting honest swales to the street or a proper drain. Most residential regrades land between $5,000 and $15,000, and we tell you when the cheaper answer is gutter work instead.
What does it cost to remove a 1960s pool on the west side?
Partial-fill removal, breaking the shell and filling with compacted material, runs $6,000 to $12,000. Full removal for future building runs $9,000 to $20,000. Access through a west side alley or a wide gate keeps you at the low end.
Do you coordinate with our ADU builder or work separately?
Either way works. Builders bring us in for the pad, utilities and export as a subcontract, and owners hire us directly before selecting a builder so the site cost is a known number in their budget. The quote reads the same off the public table in both cases.
